Our journey began in 1977 when Brokenshire Memorial Hospital laid the groundwork to become a training a Training Institution for the Department of Surgery. Led by Chariman Virgilio Durban Sr., our passionate team, including Active Consultants Dr. Rizal Aportadera, Dr. Cecilio Gempesaw and Dr. Warlito Vicente, dedicated themselves to the growth and development of our department.
Over time, our Department of Surgery evolved into a close-knit community, welcoming one resident each year, in 1980, we maked a significant milestone with the graduation of our inaugural student, Dr. Rolando Chui, MD, FPSGS. By 1985, we encountered difficulties amidst the hospital's downturn. Nevertheless, our determined medical professionals envisioned a fresh start, leading to the establishment of Brokenshire Integrated Health Ministries, Inc. in 1990.
Looking ahead to our future success, in 2015, Dr. Rolando A. Chui, MD, FPSGS, sparking notable transformations withour department. Despite encountering challenges along the, our dedication and resilience remained unwaverig. By 2017, we proudly attained full accreditation for a five-year period, affirming our unwavering commitment to surgical excellence.
Today, under the guidance of Chairman Dr. Neil Lloyd Puracan, MD, FPSGS and Training Officer Dr. Roland Victor Chui, MD, FPSGS, the Department of Surgery continues to grow as a family. With several subspecialty consultants, we currently have 10 Residents who have been carefully preselected from a pool of applicants and have undergone a rigorous recruitment process, including a qualifying exam, pre-residency exposure, interviews, oath-taking, and orientation.
Our commitment to selecting highly qualified individuals who possess a passion for surgery is reflected in the exceptional residents currently in our program.
